Dire Microfinance Strengthens Collaboration with Media Professionals

Dire Dawa, Ethiopia – Dire Microfinance has reaffirmed its commitment to structured collaboration with media institutions, highlighting the importance of joint efforts in advancing financial inclusion and community empowerment.
Over a two-day program, the institution delivered intensive training to members of the Ethiopian Mass Media Professional Women Association (Dire Dawa branch). More than 40 leaders and members participated, gaining insights into:
The history and establishment of Dire Microfinance
Savings and credit services
Women’s empowerment through tailored financial solutions
Success stories of youth and women clients
Institutional achievements and awards
Media engagement and collaborative strategies
The training was delivered by Mr. Teshome Abebe, Chief Executive Officer of Dire Microfinance, and Mr. Mulugeta Abebe, Director of Business Development and Marketing. In addition to the sessions, participants received detailed responses to their questions and feedback.
Mr. Teshome Abebe emphasized the essential role of working closely with media organizations, noting that Dire Microfinance will continue to strengthen its structured partnership with media stakeholders. He highlighted the institution’s special focus on women, enabling many to transition from household activities into entrepreneurship—creating ripple effects of empowerment across communities.
Mrs. Yewubdar Aklilu, Head of the Ethiopian Mass Media Professional Women Association (Dire Dawa branch), underscored the association’s mission to enhance the professional capacity of female journalists, promote equal participation alongside male colleagues, and support national efforts to reduce gender based challenges. She affirmed that the partnership with Dire Microfinance is part of this broader vision and expressed commitment to continue joint initiatives.
For over 20 years, the Ethiopian Mass Media Professional Women Association has worked to strengthen the professional skills of women journalists, advocate for gender equality in the media sector, and contribute to national efforts against violence and discrimination.
